Satiety – when does it kick in?


It has been shown that it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to start sending the sensation of ‘fullness’ to your stomach.

If you eat too hastily, you are more likely to overeat. So there are two things to observe if you try to teach yourself to eat less:



- Eat slowly and chew thoroughly, keep putting down knife and fork in order to delay finishing your plate.


- It feels counterintuitive when you are trying to lose weight, but have a small snack about half an hour before your meal. It will kickstart the satiety feeling and help you to eat less during your main course.
