SCIATICA and Acupuncture

The sciatic nerve is our largest and longest nerve within our body. It starts at your lower back (lumbar and sacral area) and runs all the way down to your foot.

If the sciatic nerve is inflamed or impinged, the leg might feel stiff and inflexible and movement can cause a rather debilitating shooting pain. As the nerve runs so deep inside the tissue, it is very difficult to loosen the muscle structures surrounding it by simply stretching or massage.

Acupuncture will use aim to relax the muscles affecting the sciatic nerve (mostly the gluteus muscles and the piriformis) and also work on the muscles along the spine, thus giving the nerve a chance to heal.

Start with a nice Epsom salt bath to relax the muscles and book your acupuncture appointment 😊
